it’s the season

Round about this time of year up here in Beantown, apples basically become their own food group for me. I eat them. A lot. A LOT!

It really wasn’t until I came to college in Massachoo that I realized what an apple could be. At home it was like “Yeah, Red Deliciouses are kind of gross, Granny Smith’s are kind of sour…” but here first of all the variety is spectacular and the taste is INCREDIBLE!

Here are some of my latest apple combos:

Yesterday, post-gym

With a protein bar (I definitely get enough protein and in general think those supplement things are stupid, but it was free at the gym and tasted good!) and tea, in my beloved Beatles mug.

Dessert last night (MAN this was good!):

Oven Baked Apple Packet

2/3 of a HUGE apple or one whole regular one, cut into thin slices (the thinner the better!)

1/2 tsp sugar

cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 while you’re slicing apples. Toss apples with sugar and cinnamon, and put into a foil packet. Bake for 30 minutes (in my case, I took a shower and groomed during this time period). Turn off oven and let sit in warm oven 30 minutes (in my case, I watched It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia!). Open your packet, INHALE the pielike slices. I had it with a Pepperidge Farm macadamia chocolate cookie leftover from a club movie night!

Finally, today’s lunch:

Awesomely well rounded meal:

-apple (durr)

-salad: a few handfuls of spinach, topped with lemon juice. Then a layer of cottage cheese. Then the last of the smoked salmon (I ended up adding lots of fresh ground black pepper, yum!)

-carbs: a slice of the 12 Grain Nature’s Path bread I got as a sample. It is YUMMY. I love the crunchy seeds in it, and it just has a really good flavor that is particularly conducive to toasting.

That apple packet does look amazing.

I loveeeeee me some 12-grain bread. I love crunchy stuff in my toast, too! Try Milton's bread if you haven't. As far as I know there's only one kind, but if you find more than one, I'm referring to the one with the purple label. It is THE BEST bread EVAAAAR.
