tidbits

Love love LOVE being on the mailing list for Blue Mountain Organics. They just sent me some free samples with which I am now kind of obsessed!

Earth Chips! Made of kale, nutritional yeast, pumpkin seeds, cashews, spices, and awwwwwwwwwwwwwesome.

I got home from work starvin’ marvin’, and I was meeting friends for drinks, and here was this beautiful box by my door! A handful of these bad boys made the perfect appetizer. I began by bustin’ open the plainest flavor, the nutty cheeze kale:

In general when I snack I have a serious sweet tooth, but even if you don’t go for savory bits, I cannot say enough about how YUMMY these are! Crunchy, savory, cheesy, nutty, and weirdly satisfying. Plus if you are a salty person these are DEFINITELY for you. I kept being like “But… but…” and rereading the sodium content and it is only 8% of your DV. Fabbu fabbu.

They come in crunchy clusters:

And there are also yummy little bits at the bottom. I am a little-bits-at-the-bottom-of-the-bag-eater, anyone else?

Note that Friday  night I had those, a mango margarita and chips, and then… watched a West Wing episode from Netflix and went to bed.

Dinner of champions! Sometimes those nights are just necessary :D

Also, she’s talked the talk, now can she walk the walk?

Backstory: I have been quite disdainful about Georgetown Cupcakes in the past. There’s always a line going around the block and almost everyone I know who’s tried their cupcake has said the cake itself is dry and mediocre. However, I had never actually eaten one for myself.

My mom was at a church charity fundraiser thing, and Georgetown Cupcakes catered dessert (they are nice Greek girls and tend to do these things). My mom risked life and limb to smuggle them home on the Metro, which has a realllllll strict no food policy, and proudly presented me with a lemon flavored one in a portable container:

The verdict? The most enthusiastic comment I can make is “okay”.

The cake was not particularly dry, as I’d heard some people say, but nor was it especially flavorful or unique. Baked and Wired cupcakes melt in your mouth! Also, the lemon buttercreme was seriously lacking in cohesion. One bite tasted like ordinary cream cheese icing, then one bite had tons of lemon zest clumps.

A bit of drama:

Sheila has an ongoing flirtation/war going with the cat next door. We have a hard time telling which. He chases her… but she likes it.

This was the morning’s showdown :D

Also:

1. Going to this event tonight (Sunday night). As an early gift (see #3), my mama is escorting me to World Fare: A Street Food Festival [I don’t know of anyone else who’s going but say hi if you are!]. It’s a fundraiser for scholarships for women chefs packed with the rockin’ women chefs of the DC area, emceed by CARLA FROM TOP CHEF! Stoked!

2. Going to RICHMOND Wednesday through Thursday. Stoked!

3. Thursday is my birthday. Stoked!

4. Am leaving Friday to go to AUSTIN MY FAVORITE PLACE IN THE LAND. You can read about my Austin Powers here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. Am planning scads of fun with my fam, definitely a meetup with my Austinite role model, and jammin’ at Austin City Limits (my main reason for going- my cousin did a client a favor and got backstage passes!)

Life is good!

Twas a pleasure to meet Sheila! And your mother, of course.

I loved dinner last night and seeing where the LLP magic happens. Thanks for inviting me!

I live for the crumbs at the end of the bag. Kale chip crumbs sound delightful.

Have a great time at the female chef thing! And buy the groupon deal for Cafe Green. I am!

Is that the Georgetown Cupcakes on TLC, or a different one? The owners on that show really bother me...everything they say sounds scripted and badly acted.
