Sickie.

First of all, there is a seriously amazing giveaway over at Julie GoLean.

Second of all, I feel sick and horrible. Apparently my body has decided to quit sleeping. That being said, I got excused out of work today and had kind of a “nap”. I didn’t sleep, but I lay in my bed, and my bed is right under the window (my on-campus apartment has a bedroom that’s already teeny tiny… and they put TWO PEOPLE in it!) so the sun shone on me and I kind of dazedly semi-napped.

Whatever. Either I’ll sleep tonight or I’ll pass out in the street somewhere.

Food!

When I’m feeling poorly, I try to eat healthily because it’s the best way to recuperate, but I give myself more of a break on food groups.

Brekkie was

breakfast

oatmeal, made with 1/2 a banana that had been on its last legs, so I froze it, and actually, thawed frozen banana makes for a BETTER texture, in my opinion! I had it with tea with lemon and honey for throat-soothing purposes, and the other half of an orange that I started last night, for a Vitamin C blast.

soup

By lunchtime I felt AWFUL AWFUL. I decided I didn’t care about flavor at all and just wanted to eat something nourishing, so I threw together vegetable broth, carrots, celery, cabbage, and then some leftover brown rice, and called it soup. It was wicked bland. I ended up adding some beans (not shown) so I’d get SOME protein today.

gorgeous papaya

The only exciting food I had today was FRESH PAPAYA! I don’t know if I’ve EVER had it before! It is SO GOOD! They have this section of pathetic reject product at my beloved Super 88, the big Asian grocery store, and I use it as an opportunity to try new things. Papaya is HEAVEN. It was so nice getting something cool and fresh and lovely.

Now I’m feeling marginally better, so I think I’ll have some toast and applesauce (my mom said that when I was a kid, the pediatrician told her that when a kid is sick you should follow the BRAT diet- bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. I still follow that today!)
