fig newton oats

DSCF2146

So the star of this morning’s brekkers came from something I’ve been slightly obsessed with lately:

DSCF2145

Trader Joe’s Mediterranean dried fruit mix. I’ve been actually grabbing individual elements of it (figs, apricots, or tart cherries) for various things rather than eating it as a trail mix. Today I went for the figgies.

I woke up this morning with kind of an upset tummy. I didn’t totally feel like eating anything, but I’d been planning this, and I made it, and then it was awesome and made me totally happy and really the act of stirring oatmeal I find very soothing and therapeutic.

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup plus a few tablespoons water, and 2 finely chopped dried figs (I measured the oats, chopped the figs, and put them in a baggie last night- made this morning sooooooooo easy!)

The final result:

Oh. Em. Gee. I’m as obsessed with peanut butter and banana oatmeal as the next girl, but this gives it a run for the money.

The fig oats are sooooooooo sweet and sticky and soothing and filling, and the slivered almonds gave richness and crunch. Breakfast. of. champions!

wow!!! Those oats sound amazing. Figs are super nutrition and that bowl looks absolutely pefect!!! I think I'm going to go buy some right now so I can add them to my protein oats in the morning!

I love new oat combos! I'm a PB/naner girl myself but this week have been switchin' up a bit too - great idea w/ the figs :)

The fig oats sound delicious! I'll have to look for the Mediterranean dried fruit mix next time I'm at Trader Joe's.

I bet this would be yummy with dates too. I can't quite decide which is better - dates or figs...
