heartbreak hotel

Whilst back at school, the combination of boy-induced misery and finals-induced misery meant that I generally had a deplorably poor appetite and kind of ate See’s candy and not a lot else.

I am more than okay with living on See’s candy. And actually, they are heavy on the nuts, so I was getting protein and monounsaturated fatty acids! And antioxidants from the chocolate!

I managed to perk up for the occasional real meal, heavy on carbs, heavy on using up my apartment food.

Awesome use-everything-up meal: pasta, thawed frozen peas, rehydrated shiitake mushrooms, and a fried egg, all tossed together with olive oil. Don’t knock it til ya try it!

Massively comforting:

Also, couscous:

Sauteed ginger and olive oil, added couscous and dried cherries and water, cooked it all together and topped it with chopped almonds.

I’m home now. Officially done with college, so I have officially made the jump from “student” to “unemployed”. Yikes!

Due to basically not sleeping since Thanksgiving break, I arrived home last night RAWTHER tired, and stayed in bed til 11:30. Absolutely positively unheard of for me. It was basically glorious.

And a lovely thing about home is that there is SO MUCH FOOD! One can throw a meal together based on just scrounging in the fridge!

Last of some salad, half a HARRY AND DAVID PEAR (our wonderful wonderful friends sent us a Harry and David tower of treats!), Mama’s homemade hummus and lentils and rice (both rocked my socks- the hummus had fresh red pepper, mm), and pita for dippage.

Along with:

Mugsie of Trader Joe’s tomato bisque, the best tomato soup in the land.

And this afternoon’s project followed a trip to Aphrodite Greek Imports (my favorite store in the whole world) and the acquisition of these:

To make the dip last served for this dinner party, which I will have at our Christmas party on the 27th (oh man, get stoked, I will have FOOD PORN FOR YOU)

I'm totally with you on the everything but the kitchen sink pasta. I eat that at least once a week, and it's always wonderful!
