loving gestures

A sophisticated food and drink pairing:

In the form of a strawberry popsicle and a mug of ginseng tea.

Ew sore throats.

I’m feeling way better than I did yesterday and the sleepless night preceding it (due to the purchase of that nectar of the gods, Nyquil) but am still not 100%. I’ve been eating a lot of soup… Not quality blog material!

So back pre-phlegmness, I was invited to an impromptu dinner at my auntie’s on Tuesday night. Naturally, offered to make dessert. You really cannot go wrong with my chocolate truffle brownies (in Favorite Recipes). I’m telling you, should you ever have too many chocolate truffles (which in my case is any chocolate truffles; I just do not like the texture), melt ‘em down and make these beauties:

I called my mom to let her know I’d be gone for dinner, and she had a rotten day- woke up at 4:30 and then couldn’t get back to sleep, then the power went out so she couldn’t wash her hair because she couldn’t blow dry it, etc. etc.

So I decided to leave two things that would cheer her up.

A brownie (because chocolate makes everything better) and the latest issue of W, which has Jon Hamm, aka Don Draper, aka OUR GREAT LOVE, on the cover. My mom and Netflix’d Mad Men and subsequently watched three seasons in like… a month. We love.

You’ll notice I gave Don Jon a dialogue box.

Let’s get a closeup on that…

Does anybody else do dorky stuff to cheer up their loved ones?

Aww you are the cutest! I'll sometimes leave my roommate notes when we are in bad moods.

Ugh sore throats are the worst. Eat popsicles. Or Italian ice. It really helps, actually!

Aww sorry about the sore throat! And I love the speech bubble you put on the magazine. It always makes me feel good to cheer up a friend or family member! I'm a fan of cute little notes or baking them something :)

I hope you feel better soon!

Aww, you're so sweet! :D As far as I know, my fella doesn't like to be "cheered up" so I just give him distance and if he wants to talk, I make myself available. =)
