bu pub

My college has its own pub. Yes, ridiculous. But it is cozy and adorable! I fancifully think like Hogwarts, except more drinking (although man I wish we had butterbeer!)

But it is in the cozy basement of our CASTLE (yes, we have a castle on campus- they mostly use it to host fancy pants alumni events) and it’s a really nice spot to hang. You also see professors there, which is pretty funny.

Last I went, since I am a total chick about beer and have yet to find a kind, at least American, that I like, I opted for hard cider. This is Original Sin. DELISH! In the background is my friend’s Oktoberfest. I didn’t care for it…

However, the pub is also distinctive for having ridiculously good food that you can pay for with points. Dangerous! I was kind of ridiculously out of character the first time I went and got pub grub, in the form of a chicken quesadilla.

Not gonna lie, it was fab.

BU Pub infamously gives students a coupon for a free sandwich on their 21st birthday. I got mine three weeks after the fact… way to slack, BU. Since I had to use it within 30 days of my birthday, I actually ended up just running there on a particularly crazy day and being antisocial and getting takeout.

Look at this beaut:

A salad, a pickle (! I used to hate pickles and now I love them. I don’t really know why I ever didn’t, since vinegar plus cucumber is something that makes me really happy!), and a monnnnnster sandwich.

The cross sectional:

From bottom to top, I had turkey, corned beef, swiss cheese, pepperoncini, mushrooms, lettuce and tomato, sprouts, and hot sauce.

Though it was not in fact *free*, as they charged me $1 to upgrade from chips to a side salad and another $.50 each for the mushrooms and sprouts (ridic), it was $2. However, I knew I was not going to make a lot of headway on the two inches of meat. So I took like half of it out! And have been eating it all week, hahaha!

For example, today’s lunch:

A massssssssssssssive salad of lettuce, carrot, red peppers, red onion, turkey, and heaven-sent blueberry dressing.

Plus a massssssssssssssive apple, some slices with cinnamon and some with PB (I’m never going to be able to decide which is more delicious!)

  1. The castle is ridiculous. But I never knew there was a pub in it! BU is very secretive

  3. I'm not a beer drinker either, so I turn to cider. Where I work has a pub right next door and we sometimes go in there on a dinner time. The sandwich looks amazing, although it must've been expensive to buy if it hadn't have been free.

  11. We had a student bar at Brown, but we definitely didn't get a free sandwich on our birthday nor was it in a castle. I feel cheated!

  13. That is so cool that your school has its own pub! It looks classy too. I bet it costs SO many points to eat there. Worth it for that quesadilla!!

  14. Original Sin is my FAVORITE beer-like drink. It is so hard to find though! In fact, I've only ever really seen it at Bukowski's (near the Prudential Center) and at one place in NY. Sigh.

Great use of leftovers. That salad looks delicious.
